Music is the great communicator. And in marketing, communication is (almost) everything. Music expresses feelings and thoughts in ways that words sometimes cannot.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lyrics. Melodies. Beats. They have power \u2014 to affect how we feel, think, or view the world at any given time. Music inspires ideas; it has a direct line to emotion. And for a creative who relies on emotion to deliver messages on behalf of clients, that harmonized connection can be extremely helpful.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

And on that note (wink), music energizes so many areas of the brain and keeps it firing on all cylinders. An active mind generates ideas, which is the basis for creativity. Music may help you see or understand things from a different perspective, promote a free-thinking imagination, and be a source of inspiration.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Working on big projects is exciting and rewarding, though tight deadlines with an extensive workload can sometimes be stressful. But music can create a more relaxed atmosphere.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
That doesn\u2019t have to mean physical space; it can simply be the space between your ears. Research<\/a> indicates that listening to music helps reduce stress. And employees who are less stressed tend to be more confident, resourceful, and productive.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With that release of dopamine, music also affects mood. And being in a good mood helps increase productivity. When you feel your best, you\u2019re more likely to perform your best. Listening to music can help you more quickly complete repetitive or mundane tasks while also making it easier to concentrate on them by drowning out distractions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On most days, many members of the PRIME team turn to music for inspiration, energy, and focus, or sometimes simply for company. Here\u2019s what some of them have on their playlists and how each selection provides vitality through the workday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n JULIE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I\u2019ve mostly been listening to a local oldies station. They play a good variety of songs from the \u201970s to the \u201990s. Today, however, I am listening to my Papa Roach<\/a> Radio station on Pandora<\/a>, to get in my current hard rock\/alternative rock favorites.<\/p>\n\n\n\n I need some kind of background noise to maintain my sanity. Plus, I like to sing along, which puts me in a good mood.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CHARMEIN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I listen to KS95<\/a> while I am working. It keeps me focused and productive. Fridays, on the other hand, I have been known to put on some Bob Marley to feel like I\u2019m on an island as I wrap up the week.<\/p>\n\n\n\n ROB<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n MPR<\/a> is the best of the best in music \u2014 classical, from 1600 to the present. It reminds me of the happy times in Toronto, listening with my grandfather every evening to his collection of classical music albums.<\/p>\n\n\n\n SAM<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n At work, I typically listen to Lofi HipHop beats<\/a>. There aren\u2019t any lyrics or vocals, which can be distracting. So, listening to mellow instrumentals seems to get me in a flow state and more focused on what I\u2019m doing.<\/p>\n\n\n\n KELSEY<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n One of my go-tos at work is KEXP Live Performances<\/a> on YouTube. I get to hear live, in-studio performances of bands I might never get the chance to see in person. The music keeps things fresh, which helps me gain fresh perspectives as I work through client projects and build marketing recommendations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Another go-to is Motown. Any artist. These are my \u201cget stuff done\u201d jams because the Motown sound helps me groove through my workweek.<\/p>\n\n\n SARA B.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n I listen to a wide variety of music and playlists that change with the season, from classical and other instrumental styles to rock and metal. Some days I listen to \u201c8 Hours of Rain on a Tent\u201d on YouTube because it seems to settle the dogs down. Lately, though, I mostly listen to Harry Styles<\/a>. Because Harry Styles.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BEN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Usually, I go to my iTunes and listen to full-length rock \u2018n\u2019 roll albums. Sometimes I\u2019ll use YouTube for electronic music because people post some good mixes. Whatever I choose, it needs to have some energy and drive that helps me crank through my tasks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n One of the things I\u2019m grateful for at PRIME is being able to put on my headphones and dive into my work.<\/p>\n\n\n\n MELISSA<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n If I\u2019m working on a task that requires concentration, I opt for thunderstorms on YouTube. The consistent and relaxing sounds fill the silence and keep me company while I craft content in specific voices.<\/p>\n\n\n\n With more routine tasks, I usually reach for the calming yet energizing sounds of Toad the Wet Sprocket<\/a>, Martin Zellar<\/a>, or just about any \u201990s alternative rock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n CASIE<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Generally, I listen to Harry Styles<\/a> or my Mellow playlist on Spotify<\/a>. But when a deadline looms, I throw my hair up and crank some rap.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The rap tempo keeps me cranking; the mellow playlist (and Harry) keeps me Zen. I may or may not have a playlist for venting frustration if complications arise.<\/p>\n\n\n\n BRIAN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n My music selection varies greatly. The gamut could be anything from Gary Clark Jr.<\/a> and Postmodern Jukebox<\/a> to mariachi and Frank Sinatra.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Music keeps me driven and focused on tasks while drowning out distractions or background conversations.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Without question, music is a powerful tool. From entertaining to helping you get into the workday groove, music provides a versatile range of applications and benefits.
