They returned to the office with renewed commitment to inspire growth, professional development, and fresh creativity among employees, who spark the energy day in and day out for our clients.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Conference Overview<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The theme of this year\u2019s conference was \u201cBe the spark! \u2013 Ignite your team!\u201d\u2014a fitting topic for Prime\u2019s vision to \u201cspark the energy.\u201d Key speakers included<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Joe Nayquonable Jr.<\/strong> &#8211;\u00a0CEO of the Mille Lacs Band\u2019s Corporate Commission and founder of the Mille Lacs Corporate Ventures.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Bob Schlichte<\/strong> &#8211; Workshop facilitator and ship builder: a builder of friendships, relationships, partnerships, and sponsorships.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Pam Borton<\/strong> &#8211; President &amp; CEO of Borton Partners and founder of TeamWomenMN and Empower Leadership Academy for Girls.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Kat Perkins<\/strong> &#8211; Finalist on the Voice and a top selling iTunes rock artist.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Conference Focus<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The speakers presented inspirational ideas for leaders who want to support, engage, re-invest, value, and empower their team by<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Building up relationships, friendships, partnerships, and sponsorships.<\/li>\n<li>Maximizing a team\u2019s time, talent, and technology.<\/li>\n<li>Making a difference, finding a passion, and communicating a vision.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Conference speakers encouraged leaders to embrace their strengths and expand their performance threshold. Servant leaders demonstrate care and stay engaged. They strive to challenge their team and foster connection. These are just some of the leadership qualities that enhance employee development.<\/p>\n<p>We asked Mark, Shauna, Garrett, and Roclyn to share their takeaways from the NLDC seminars.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Prime Team Takeaways<\/strong><\/h2>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Mark Murray<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>The power of giving real-time feedback.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>The importance of recapping meetings right after they close.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Employees want feedback\u2014how am I doing, how am I making a difference? Give feedback right away, and they can make adjustments right away. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Shauna Smart<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Change happens outside of your comfort zone.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Constructive feedback is necessary and is best in the moment.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Ask for employee feedback before reviews and do reviews more often (quarterly reviews, 1:1s weekly\/monthly).<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Lead individuals as opposed to whole teams \u2013 not all learn or understand in the same way.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Praise: be specific, immediate, and personal.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Instead of saying \u201cYes, but,\u201d use \u201cYes, and\u201d to encourage and inspire.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Passion, passion, passion.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><strong>Garrett Eichhorn<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li><em>Mentor\/mentee relationships are critical for career growth. It\u2019s important for all levels in the hierarchy \u2013 from secretary to CEO \u2013 to experience both roles and recognize that every perspective is valuable in shaping a balanced outlook. <\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Micro-managing is vilified for good reason \u2013 it deteriorates our willingness to step outside the box and engage with creativity. Defined roles and expectations, a well-communicated mission statement, and feedback mechanisms will reduce the need to micro-manage.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>When it comes to brainstorming, team members will always provide more valuable contributions when they\u2019re celebrated for original thinking instead of denigrated for trying to fit the mold. Leaders are responsible for creating an ecosystem of trust and safety, and not just the quickest solution to an immediate problem. \u00a0<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h4><strong><em>\u00a0<\/em><\/strong><strong>Roclyn Bradshaw<\/strong><\/h4>\n<ul>\n<li>Favorite Statements\n<ul>\n<li><em>\u201cLeadership is influence. People buy into the leader before they buy into the vision.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cAccountability is the glue that ties commitment to results.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>\u201cTeamwork makes the dream work.\u201d<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>\u00a0<\/em>Employee Engagement\n<ul>\n<li><em>Makes happier and more productive employees.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Is maximized if we inspire versus require.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Grows profits as much as three times faster. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li><em>\u00a0<\/em>Mentoring\n<ul>\n<li><em>If a mentor isn\u2019t good at giving hard feedback, then they are not in the right role.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>We stop listening when we are not authentic.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>Not everyone likes to mentor or be mentored. Focus on the employees who do. <\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li>\u00a0Did you know?\n<ul>\n<li><em>80 percent of learning happens between mentor and mentee.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>98 percent of society doesn\u2019t know where they need to be coached.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>79 percent of millennials and 75 percent of executives say mentoring was critical to their success.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>77 percent of companies with mentoring programs measure improved retention, job performance, work quality and effort, and engagement.<\/em><\/li>\n<li><em>81 percent of millennials with mentors are twice as likely to stay at a company five or more years.<\/em><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2><strong>Looking Forward\u2026<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>The National Leadership Development Conference inspired us to <strong>BE <\/strong>the spark, so we can spark the energy for you.
