From the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.exploreminnesota.com\/things-to-do\/4204\/twine-ball-museum\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World\u2019s Largest Twine Ball<\/a>\u00a0(made by one man) in Darwin to the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.rothsay.net\/prairie-chickens\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World\u2019s Largest \u201cBooming\u201d Prairie Chicken<\/a> in Rothsay (the Prairie Chicken Capital of Minnesota), the North Star State is home to a wide variety of wonders worth a road trip, many of which are a quick drive from the Twin Cities.<\/p>\n<p>Summer is the perfect time to explore these memorable monuments. Grab the camera, buckle up, and hit the road for our must-see Minnesota favorites.<\/p>\n<h2>Gone Fishin\u2019<\/h2>\n<p>There are many fish monuments around the state, as is fitting. Several of the state fish, the walleye, made an appearance on our list, including one with a saddle so visitors can ride it (the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.waymarking.com\/waymarks\/WMAB14_Leapin_Walleye_Fish_Photo_Op_Kabetogama_MN\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Leaping Walleye at Lake Kabetogama<\/a>, way up north near Voyageurs National Park and the Canadian border). Other roadside fish include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lou T. Fisk, the World\u2019s Largest Lutefisk in Madison, the Lutefisk Capital of the USA.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.orrpelicanlake.com\/billy-the-bluegill\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Billy the Bluegill<\/a> on Pelican Lake in Orr.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nevischamber.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">World\u2019s Largest Tiger Muskie<\/a> in Nevis.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadsideamerica.com\/tip\/26934\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Big Mean Muskie<\/a> on the shores of Mille Lacs in Isle.<\/li>\n<li>Also in Isle, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.roadsideamerica.com\/tip\/3445\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">thrashing walleye<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/lakeofthewoodsmn.com\/the-history-of-willie-walleye\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Willie the Walleye<\/a> in Baudette.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>You can find Paul Bunyan\u2019s Walleye up Highway 169 in <a href=\"http:\/\/www.garrisonmn.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Garrison<\/a>. (Photo credit: Ann Marie Strong)<\/em><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<h2><\/h2>\n<h2>Minnesota History<\/h2>\n<p>Giant figures that represent Minnesota\u2019s rich and varied history can be found throughout the state:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.mnhs.org\/places\/other\/roadside\/images\/nachwen.php\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Chief Wenonga<\/a>, Battle Lake (named for the battle of 1795 between the Dakota Sioux and Ojibwe).<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/explorealex.com\/dt_places\/big-ole-central-park\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Big Ole<\/a>, a 28-foot Viking in Alexandria.<\/li>\n<li>Pierre the Voyageur, who greets visitors to Two Harbors. Pierre recently lost his right arm and canoe paddle in a windstorm.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.hermannmonument.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">The Hermann Monument<\/a> (aka Hermann the German), New Ulm. Here are just a few:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Paul Bunyan and Babe the Blue Ox in Bemidji, the birthplace of Paul Bunyan.
