We would like to introduce our newest addition to the design team: Mike Gurtek. We asked him to tell us (and the world) a little bit about himself, and it turns out, he\u2019s not too bad at writing either!<\/p>\nWe would like to introduce our newest addition to the design team: Mike Gurtek. \u201cI started working in the graphics field in 1992 at a Minneapolis company.\u00a0 I worked in the art department where at the time scanners were state-of-the-art.\u00a0 Scanners\u2026 state-of-the-art?\u00a0 This was my first taste of graphic design.\u00a0 At the time I didn\u2019t know you could combine artwork with computers.\u00a0 This opened up a whole new world of opportunity for me.<\/p>\n
I went to college at St. Cloud State for a degree in graphic design.\u00a0 Since I\u2019m really into gaming and special effects I followed that school with more school at Academy College in Bloomington, MN.\u00a0 Here I pursued my studies in animation in stop motion and 3D graphics.<\/p>\n
My style of design is most recognized by vector pin up art.\u00a0 As a kid I used to draw\u2026 a lot.\u00a0 Some of my personal works are combinations of photography with illustration.\u00a0 These types of work are typically \u201cgrindhouse\u201d esq styles of work.\u00a0 Very 70\u2019s, very B-movie and really low budget looking.\u00a0 I guess I take a lot of influence from 70\u2019s pop culture.<\/p>\n
My other style of design is typography.\u00a0 In most of my logo designs or type treatments I almost always redesign type or make my own fonts.\u00a0 I have never been one to pick a font and tell my client \u201cHere\u2019s your logo\u201d.\u00a0 Illustrator allows me to reverse-engineer a font to customize it to my liking.<\/p>\n
When I\u2019m not staring at pixels I can be found around at local original music clubs.\u00a0 So far my favorite bands are: Pink Mink, the4onthefloor, Solid Gold and Red Pens.\u00a0 I am a huge music fanatic.\u00a0 It\u2019s the most powerful driving force in my creations.\u201d<\/p>\n
In his first week with us, he is spending time with the other designers, learning the ropes and getting introduced to current projects. We are very excited to add his talents to the Prime<\/a> design mix \u2013 welcome to the team Mike!<\/p>\n
