Get A Few SEO Tips & Understand Search Results From Google & Matt Cutts
Luke in our web department forwarded me this post on The Anatomy of a Search Result that contains a video of Google’s Matt Cutts. I’ve embedded the video below in which Matt breaks down a search engine result in Google using Starbucks as an example and points out where Google takes this info from, why and also drops in some good basic SEO tips.
For anyone just starting to try and understand the world of search, this is a great starting point. So many people only focus on rank, but there are some very solid tips on the value of how your search result (SERP) reads (and attracts clicks) in this video. If you grasp the concepts in Matt’s video above and like the visual learning format, then check out the SEOmoz Whiteboard Friday videos. Rand and his team put together a great video segment weekly that gets our attention with all of their value and info. It would also be a good idea to subscribe or bookmark the Google Webmaster blog and SEOmoz blog for more good stuff.
You’ll also notice the video breaks down the "sitelink" results that some SERPS offer, we’ve discussed sitelinks from Google here before and Matt reinforces that they are algorithm results to help the searcher, not a paid item.
