Universal Search & Video For Small Business

Video, video, video.  It’s everywhere, it’s increasing and it can even better your search engine results.  With engines pushing more results from videos, blogs and other web elements … not just web pages, you’re going to increase your opportunities to win business from Google, Yahoo and the likes.  Then consider the benefits of video to broadcast content versus standard text and graphics.

Pat Schaber of The Lonely Marketer highlighted a video produced by a chiropractor on a specific type of treatment.  This self made video has resulted in one client already for the Doc and thousands of views on Google. The bottom line is that good information (content) that was presented through video, then found by a consumer in Google’s universal search results, landed new business.  You can’t argue with that.

Maybe it’s time for you to think about how video can benefit your users and now even your search engine results.

Pat points out that the video was easily created without hiring a pro … but I do want to point out that professionally created videos can be used across many mediums (interactive cd-roms, website, expos, office displays, tv or cable ads), so you really do get your money’s worth and more.

If you need a bit more info on what Universal Search entails, try these blog posts from Search Engine Land and The Top Rank Blog.  Below is an example of video in the results when searching David Letterman:

  1. Aaron,
Great point about the professional video production. I hadn’t thought about the multiple uses. There is alot of potential there!

  2. Aaron, you’re absolutely right on all counts. Video, Images, Text AND Audio are going to take up more and more of your search results.

In fact, if you use Ask.com, they provide what I believe is a great peak into the future of search results display.

I’m about to comment on Video Quality, as I think it’s often assumed that the postage-stamp size of YouTube vids will do justice. Just not so. They CAN work, but there are many reasons to create quality video with good storytelling. More on that shortly.

  3. Pat- Had to get my 2 cents in for the value of our services. :)

Mark- Thanks for the comment. I’m a minimal ASK user currently but I am enjoying their ad campaign on TV and radio. Maybe I’ll have to increase my efforts there. I’m 100% with you as well on the video quality aspect … I’ll stay tuned for you dropping a post on that.

  4. Hi Aaron,

Yes, the Ask.com campaign is definitely more popular than their site activity… but they’re getting there.

If Google would just provide a CSS style button you could click to get ASK.com type visuals… Hmmm… sounds like a Firefox plugin (if anyone is listening…;-)

Here’s the post referencing your comments above. Let me know if you see things the same (keep in mind we could go MUCH deeper down the rabbit hole of SEO-SEM, but we also have a fast-growing business to run here…;-)
    Have a great week!
