Websites Still Forcing Users Into Specific Browsers? Yup, Just Use CarSoup.com
I thought the days of reccomended browsers or even best resolutions were far in the rearview mirror. But I was wrong.
In doing some research for a project I went into CarSoup.com yesterday to walk through their registration process. I have sold two cars using this website in the last 6 years and it was easy to use and got me results. But what I ran into yesterday made me laugh in disbelief and then ask "are you serious?"
Upon selecting to sell a car, the first screen greeted me with the following warning (actual graphic below):
The Sell process of our website has been optimized for use with the latest versions of Internet Explorer. You may experience some difficulties when using other popular browsers such as Firefox, Safari, etc…
You can download Internet Explorer free from Microsoft.

I love the fact that they acknowledge their are other "popular" internet browsers out there, but they’re not really concerned with any of them. Is it really that hard of work to make sure that your INTERNET BASED BUSINESS MODEL works on all browsers? I guess so. I couldn’t imagine telling a client of ours that their website will work great on some browsers, but may be difficult when used by others. Yikes.
I hope that when I turn on my TV tonight it doesn’t tell me that I must watch this show on a Sony Plasma TV, as other TV’s may cause difficulties viewing it correctly … unless they offer me a link for a free Sony Plasma TV!
