Google Says We’re a Good Advertising Blog … & a Bad One
I enjoy sifting through our analytics report and the search results to seek out the terms we bring in users for on this blog just like any other blogging, SEO loving person would. But I have yet to run into something like this on our blog, our site or one of our client’s websites so I thought I would share.
We are the #3 result for "good advertising blog" - Google search results
(I see quite a few of these results weekly)
We are also the #1 result for "bad advertising blog" - Google search results
(today is the first time I saw this … thus this post)
I marvel when a user types in a term that implies the site being rated by searching for: a good site, a great web designer, an excellent florist. My perception is that the user feels Google is ranking these results for good, great and excellent … not the content or text or even the links into the site. Good stuff that makes me laugh.
So we’ll leave the verdict up to you … Google is undecided on our goodness or evilness, we’re both to them. Maybe I’ll try getting us ranked for "honest and hardworking advertising blog" … then people will see our true colors. Do you have any results like this?

And in one weekend Google has ranked Prime Advertising #1 when searching for “honest and hardworking advertising blog.”
This alone shows you the extreme importance of what text you have in your links.
If you want to be listed higher on Google search results start with using more descriptive text within your links. Google seems to flag this as very valuable information.
Great test Aaron!!!
This is great information. Definatly proof that what we talk about with our clients on a daily basis is true.
Great job Aaron!

You might want to compete for rankings in more competitive keywords now.
Lyndon, Isn’t everyone searching for “honest & hardworking advertising blogs”? Back to the drawing board, my keyword research tool is broken then.
But in all seriousness, thanks for stopping by.
