Hello, Video? Yup, It’s Coming To Your Phone
Adobe announced earlier this week that their next big push is bringing Flash video to mobile applications. A few years back it was the push to bring more video to the web utilizing friendlier interfaces and improved performance and now that has been accomplished … and then some. I would say that we have video clips as part of 1 of every 3 new web projects we take on … major growth from 1 out of 50 about 2 years ago. Forbe’s article on the Flash announcement cited that Flash has a stronghold on video content and that would play in thier favor in rolling out Flash Lite to more mobile phones.
Flash Lite videos can be presented in a variety of forms, including streaming video, downloadable clips and screen savers, and within Flash-based applications, according to Adobe. Adobe also announced that over 200 million phones are being shipped with Flash Lite included.
So how will mobile video benefit our clients in the future? Maybe you can watch a video on a specific product while standing in front of it in the store, or learn about a dental procedure while waiting to see the dentist. It will be interesting to see what trickles down to small business options after the big dogs use and abuse it. One thing for sure … we’re in for a lot more video.
